Stainless Steels

A.J. Oster offers a wide range of stainless steel alloys in both foil and sheet gauges for applications where exceptional strength, corrosion and oxidation resistance, and cosmetic appearance are called for.  

Our selection includes the austenitic, ferritic and martensitic alloys listed below. Materials are available in a variety of finishes including bright, matte, mist, and brush that meet the Ra requirements specified.

Alloys

300 Series – Austenitic

Nickel chromium steels, including 301, 302, 304, 305, 316, 321

Characteristics

  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Excellent formability
  • Non-magnetic in annealed condition
  • Only slightly magnetic when cold-worked

400 Series – Ferritic

Non-hardenable stainless steels, including 43X nickel chromium molybdenum steels

Characteristics

  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Good ductility
  • Increased strength from cold work
  • Magnetic
  • Not heat treatable
  • Prone to incursions at melting

400 Series – Martensitic

Hardenable stainless steels, including 41X chromium molybdenum steels

Characteristics

  • Heat treatable to increase strength
  • Reduced corrosion resistance with heat treating
  • Good ductility
  • Good corrosion and oxidation resistance
  • Magnetic
  • Increased strength from cold work
